Activity for the third quarter of 2017 at the Port Complex

Tangier Med records overall growth

  • The most significant growths are recorded respectively for container traffic + 12%, TIR + 10%, Passengers + 2% and exports of Renault Melloussa vehicles + 10%

Container activity increasing
Tangier Med container terminal traffic at the end of the third quarter of 2017 was 201,404,728 TEUs, an increase of 12% compared to the same period of 2016. Import/export container traffic grew by 17% compared to the same period of 2016.

Passenger and RoRo Activity
The port Tanger Med reached a traffic of 214,485 TIR units, up 10%, with passenger traffic of 2,361,506 corresponding to a growth of 2%, and vehicle traffic of 604,207 with growth of 4% compared to the same period of 2016.

The 2017 Marhaba campaign, which lasted from 5 June to 15 September 2017, recorded an overall traffic of 1,625,801 passengers, 397,822 vehicles and 4,152 coaches, a slight increase of 1% compared to Marhaba 2016.

This campaign ran in very good conditions, and saw peak traffic at the entrance of 30,048 passengers recorded on July 30th. For the return phase, and because of the Aid Al Adha Feast, the port experienced two respective waves with a peak of 23,055 passengers and 5,118 vehicles on 24 August 2017 and 24,671 passengers and 5,441 vehicles on 9 September 2017.

Increase in New Car Activity
295,000 vehicles were handled at the two Renault and Common User vehicle terminals, including 192,000 vehicles from the Renault Mellousa plant, an increase of 10% over the same period of 2016.

Low Growth of Hydrocarbon Activity
The traffic of refined products at the level of the hydrocarbon terminal amounted to 5,645,000 tonnes for the 3rd quarter of 2017, a slight increase of 0.5% compared to the same period of 2016. This growth is driven by the import of fuel oil.
