The following release was published by PSA:
PSA Venice marked another milestone on 6 June 2023 as PSA and the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority (AdSP) signed an agreement to extend the existing concession by 25 years. The new contract will start on 1 October 2024 and will last until 1 October 2049. The original 25-year concession dates from 1997.
With this renewed concession, PSA Venice can now start executing its plan to upgrade the terminal. Funds will be used to prepare the terminal for a capacity increase to 500,000 TEUs per year. More environmentally-friendly container handling equipment, such as electric and hybrid prime movers and quay cranes, will be acquired. The terminal will also invest in more sustainable infrastructure, such as the installation of photovoltaic panels and LED light towers.
With its five container berths and 852 metre quay length, PSA Venice, situated in the middle of the Venice Lagoon, is the terminal of choice in the Port of Venice. From this strategic location, it is ideally positioned to perform goods clearance and transit operations to and from the markets of the Venice region, Northern Italy and Centre of Europe. PSA Venice has weekly direct connections to the major Eastern Mediterranean markets and the Far East through the Suez Canal.
