The Port of Lisbon in 2017 handled more than 12.1 million tons of cargo, representing an increase of 19 percent compared to 2016. For containerized cargo, the increase was of 26 percent, reaching 493.253 TEU*. These figures show that the Port of Lisbon achieved the highest cargo throughput since 2011, as well as the largest growth rate among the national ports, in 2017.

The solid bulk cargo, with more than 5.3 million tons handled, achieved the best results in the last 10 years while the liquid bulk cargo improved by 15 percent (compared to 2016).

The cargo loaded in Port of Lisbon, representing 42 percent of the total cargo throughput, has also increased 33 percent.

Lídia Sequeira, President of Port of Lisbon Authority, highlights that “these figures are very encouraging, specially because they show that the strategy adopted, with a focus on growth, supported on labour peace in the port, was the right one.”
