PIL makes rare boxship order

Containership orders have been almost non-existent through 2016. Nevertheless, with less than a fortnight of the year to go, Splash has unearthed a rare boxship order.

Chinese yard Taizhou Kouan has secured an order from Singapore’s Pacific International Lines (PIL) for one firm 600 teu ship plus one on option. No price has been revealed. The firm ship is due to deliver in 2018.

PIL, owned by the Teo family, focuses on the intra-Asia trades and is the 14th largest liner in the world, according to Alphaliner statistics, with a fleet comprising 366,330 slots.
