MSC changes terminal in Umm Qasar

MSC is pleased to announce a change of terminal provider in Umm Qasr. Effective from 20th March 2016 the (MSC Lana), MSC will migrate its operation from Berth no. 8 to the new, purpose-built ‘Basra Multipurpose Terminal’(BMT).

BMT is the largest terminal area in the region at over 685,000 sq.m. The new terminal is now fully operation and capable of handling standard, reefer, project and heavy lift cargo. The terminal provides the following benefits to MSC’s customers:

  • One day transit time from Jebel Ali
  • Modern, secure warehouse facilities of 45,000m2
  • Cargo unloading and storage service
  • Immediate vessel berth on arrival to the port for efficient and reliable schedule times

  • Reefer storage, plug in and monitoring for over 250 units

  • Pipe storage facilities
  • Modern technology for terminal planning and automated operations
  • X-Ray inspection and container weighing services
  • Secure terminal entrance and pre-gate area with 160 spaces

All MSC feeder services calling at Umm Qasr, which connect Iraq to major international markets through the port of Jebel Ali, will now call at BMT. The first vessel to call Umm Qasr will be the MSC Lana on the 20st March 2016.
