Helsingborg opens Quay 903 for containers

The Swedish port has invested SEK 55 mln (ca. EUR 5.8 mln) into enabling container handling operations at its Quay 903, up-to-date used for dealing with break-bulk.

The 13.0 m deep Quay 903 can now serve also container carriers up to 225 m long with the use of Liebherr’s LHM 550 mobile crane, featuring 144 tn of lifting capacity, and having a 54 m outreach. Maiden call at the upgraded quay was made by OPDR’s vessel Morsum, carrying citrus fruits.

“We are pleased to present this container-adjusted quay, an energy boost to our offer which in turn will help our clients in making even better business,” Nicklas Rommel, Port of Helsingborg’s CCO, commented.

Nicklas further added, “It is exciting to see our port growing all the time, succeeding in developing within the existing premises. With an increased capacity we’re making Helsingborg a more attractive port for customers who have now an even better access to container call frequency. The risk that clients will have to wait has decreased considerably thanks to improved flexibility.”
