Gulftainer has implemented the Marine and Container Handling (MACH) terminal operating system (TOS) at its terminal in Sharjah in the UAE.
The terminal operator is rolling out the MACH TOS across its UAE terminals in a phased manner in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
The first full implementation took place at Sharjah Container Terminal (SCT).
Steve Ogden, group port operations director at Gulftainer, said: “Most importantly, container ships arriving at our ports will benefit from the considerable reduction in waiting times that comes with synchronised operations.
“We look forward to the roll-out of MACH at our Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT), where Super-User training is currently underway.”
According to Gulftainer, the new TOS will enhance operating processes and customer service functions through optimising job orders, vehicle routing processes for container pick-up and delivery as well as the management of un-laden travel distances within the facility.
This will help to boost terminal productivity, improve service quality and enable the company to identify and solve problems before they occur, it said in a statement.
K Raghunathan, head of ports and cargo at TCS India, said: “The MACH roll out at the Sharjah Container Terminal (SCT) has been the most successful implementation of any we’ve facilitated globally.”
“The system went live on its scheduled date with no glitches at all,” Raghunathan added. “This is a remarkable feat by the terminal.”
Flemming Dalgaard, CEO of Gulftainer, said: “This step is a key milestone in our information technology transformation strategy.”
