Maersk announced this Monday that they will be dropping Felixstowe in favor of London Gateway as their UK port of choice for the Gemini network in 2025.
The announcement confirms information reported earlier by Gavin van Marle for The Loadstar on November 15th.
eeSea has already updated proforma rotations for all services on the 3 Asia-Europe and 2 Europe-Middle East service strings referenced; more details can be found in our Signals section below.
London Gateway will now most notably serve as the first port of discharge on the ML - AE5, as well as the last load port out of Europe for both the ML - AE1 and the ML - ME1.
Maersk and Hapag Lloyd's strategic decision is supported by eeSea's average delay and On-Time-Performance data. While many ports' average delays declined globally in 2024, London Gateway has displayed relative consistency amongst its neighbors month-over-month: not once dipping below a -4.1 day average delay until reaching -5.2 days in October. Felixstowe on the other hand, has shown a distinctly oscillating trend, closing out the previous month at -6.3 and maintining OTP at 30% or below with the exception of July where it achieved 50% OTP.
