COSCO SHIPPING Tianjin 15MW Wind Power Project Phase II Successfully Connected

The following release was published by COSCO Shipping:

At about 18:00 on December 7, with the closure of the electric brake, three wind turbines of over 100 meters high stood up to the wind as the fan blades of over 70 meters long began to slowly rotate. The 15MW wind power project phase II of the Green Intelligent Energy Demonstration Program Section C at the Port of Tianjin was successfully connected to the grid for power generation at full capacity.

This is another important demonstrative project of the strategic cooperation between COSCO SHIPPING and Tianjin Port Group, jointly implemented by COSCO SHIPPING Tianjin, COSCO Goldwind and Tianjin Port Group, after the 9MW wind power project phase I was connected to the grid on December 15, 2021.

The Green Intelligent Energy Demonstration Program Section C of the Port of Tianjin (Phase II) is located in the area of the Beijiang Union International Container Terminal and Ro-Ro Terminal. Funded by Tianjin COSCO Goldwind New Energy Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Tianjin, the project includes three GW171-5MW wind power generators with a total installed capacity of 15MW, which are expected to provide 35 million kWh of clean electricity annually, saving about 14,000 tons of standard coal and reducing about 34,895 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

With the successful grid connection of the 15MW wind power project, the total number of wind turbines under the Demonstration Program has reached 5, with a total installed capacity of 24MW and an installed photovoltaic capacity of 1MWp, which are expected to provide 58,357,000 kWh of clean power to the Port of Tianjin every year, injecting new momentum into building the port into a world-class smart green hub port.

During Phase II project engineering, the project team members fully considered the environmental adaptability of the wind turbines, the electricity consumption of the terminal and the head room. They invited experts from the China Academy of Art to design the tower painting for the place where the wind turbines are located. In line with modern aesthetics, three wind turbines were painted with gradient shades, with green, blue and red as the main colors, symbolizing environmental friendliness, port and hub, respectively.
