Argentina’s Ministry of Transport led the Port of Buenos Aires to join the Green Award port network. The port launched a discount for all types of Green Award-certified marine vessels.
Connecting Argentina with the world is one of the main objectives of the Argentine Government, and the Port of Buenos Aires is the main transshipment point for Argentina’s foreign trade. It is Latin America’s number four port in Latin America and the Caribbean in terms of facilities and annual volume.
Since the port is in a strategic location, the metropolitan area of the beautiful city of Buenos Aires, the Port Administration is mainly concerned with issues at the port that may affect the local community. Buenos Aires seeks to improve air and water quality and reduce environmental impacts.
Recognizing the need to promote safe and sound operations at the port and to meet public concerns, the Port of Buenos Aires, after evaluating the advantages of several initiatives, was in favor of the Green Award. Green Award is recognized in the maritime world for its renowned certification of ships that apply the best practices and exceed the legal regulations of the industry in terms of safety, quality, and environmental management.
From May 22, 2017, the Port of Buenos Aires grants a 10% discount on the Green Award vessels.
By joining the Green Award, Buenos Aires has become the first GA port in South America. This big step is an expression of the measures taken by the port in areas of social responsibility and environmental awareness. Participation in the Green Award program will help attract safe and environmentally-friendly ships, fostering quality logistics that will contribute to the overall improvement of shipping in South America.
