The Port of Antwerp’s container volumes increased by 4% in the first nine months of 2016 to 7.6m teu.
This growth rate is slower than 2015’s 8% growth, which was higher than any other port in Europe.
However 4% growth is still significantly higher than its North European competitors, allowing it to gain market share.
For example, at its two biggest competitors, Rotterdam and Hamburg, throughput fell by 3% and 1% respectively in the first six months of 2016.
