Terminal officials at the Port of Aden, Yemen have revealed a new expansion plan that includes putting Ma’alla Container Terminal into operation again after more than four years of suspension.
According to the letter issued by the leadership of the Aden Ports Development Company (APDC) which was addressed to shipping agents, the management confirmed the readiness of MCT to receive container ships, after years of receiving small vessels loaded with pre-requisites of construction.
The first agents who apply for using MCT berths would enjoy special privileges, the letter reads, including privilege of berthing priority as well as permanent berthing space at the terminal.
In addition, ADPC said that it would provide professional operators to operate ship cranes for the discharge/load operations with no further charges aside to general tariff.
The company said that the move reflects an expansion in business activity at the Port of Aden.
“We hope to participate and contribute positively to revitalize the Port of Aden’s commercial activities and use all available facilities which will help in boosting the economic cycle of Aden City and the Republic of Yemen,” the letter further adds.
